Abstract

Background: Diagnosis and management of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone is challenging and impaired by 

cost and availability issues.

Case presentation: An 81-year-old man who had features of chronic obstructive airway disease and cor pulmonale, 

subsequently developing recurrent seizures and severe persistent hyponatraemia. We discuss measures that will improve 

diagnosis as well as management of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SAIDH) in local settings. 

Conclusion: The challenges to diagnosis and management of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone syndrome 

should be appreciated
