NIGER DELTA JOURNAL OF MEDICINE & MEDICAL RESEARCH

In this 21^st century practice of medicine and dentistry, research forms a key part in both the carrier progression of medical doctors and the need to find new grounds for effective and innovative ways in patient management and also in the medical academic environment especially in the training of the incoming generation of medical and dental practitioners. This is with a view of maintaining international standards in practice, teaching and in research.

It is the hope of every researcher to publish his or her research work in reputable journals with considerations of time and cost. The Nigerian Medical Association Bayelsa State Branch thought it wise to create this avenue for quick and cost effective opportunity for its members and others who may be interested to publish their research work.

In this second edition of the journal, we are looking at issues that are peculiar to our environment and society.  The issues focused on in this edition includes original articles on the impact of respiratory diseases on in-patient mortality in a tertiary teaching hospital in the Niger Delta region; Patterns of wound infections and antibiotic susceptibility profiles among orthpaedic and trauma patients in the South Western part of Nigeria; Safety practices among healthcare institutions towards Lassa fever prevention in Esan West local Government Area.

We also looked at a number of case reports. There was a case of membranous lupus Nephritis in a 50year old lecturer; a case of Anencephaly and the need for socio-cultural intervention; a case of a successful post-menopausal pregnancy; and a case of Emphysematous pyelonephritis in a 45year old Diabetic patient.
